Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Brett Lawrie has decided to drop his appeal of a four-game suspension.

On Wednesday, Major League Baseball suspended Lawrie and fined him an undisclosed amount for his aggressive actions toward umpire Bill Miller during Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Lawrie's tirade included throwing his helmet in Miller's vicinity. Lawrie elected to appeal the suspension prior to Wednesday's game against the Yankees. He played in the game and went 0-for-4 with a run scored.

Lawrie will begin his suspension on Thursday.

Earlier on Thursday, the Blue Jays optioned struggling first baseman Adam Lind to Triple-A Las Vegas. In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays selected the contract of Yan Gomes from Las Vegas.
