Ryan Cairns eagled the first playoff hole Friday to beat Vaughn Groenewald and win the Vodacom Origins of Golf.

Cairns had fired a 10-under 62 in regulation, equaling the course record, to reach 15-under par 201. Groenewald birdied the final two holes of his round to finish off a 66 and head into the clubhouse with the same score as Cairns.

The two headed back to the 18th tee, and Cairns secured his victory with a chip-in for eagle.

"With Vaughn in close on the playoff hole, I knew I had to hit that shot properly," said Cairns. "It was actually a tight lie and I was going to putt it because I didn't want to duff it in front of all of those people."

Second-round leader Jake Redman shot only a one-under 71 on Friday and finished in a tie for third with Louis de Jager (67) at 12-under 204.

James Kamte (67) and Titch Moore (69) shared fifth at minus-11.

Rookie Drikus van der Walt had set the course record on Thursday, but it was sandwiched between rounds of 78 and 74. He ended in a tie for 32nd at two- under.
