Denver, CO – Denver Nuggets center Chris "Birdman" Andersen has had property seized from his home as part of an ongoing investigation into internet crimes against children.
The Post reported Thursday that the Douglas County Sheriff's office contacted Andersen regarding the investigation, and that the 33-year-old cooperated fully with officials.
"The Denver Nuggets are aware of today's media reports involving forward/center Chris Andersen. It involves a legal investigation and we are awaiting further details. Chris has been excused from all team-related activities indefinitely as he deals with the reported investigation. Per team policy, the Nuggets will not comment on any ongoing legal circumstance involving any player or employee."
According to the paper, the Douglas County unit responsible for dealing with internet crimes against children received a tip in February from a California law enforcement agency. Andersen is a native of Long Beach, a city south of Los Angeles along the Pacific Ocean.
The colorful Blinn College product lives in Larkspur, a small town roughly 40 miles south of Denver. Though agency spokesperson Deborah Sherman declined to say if Andersen is a suspect, the Post revealed that property records show at least one other person lives in the house with him.
His manager, Mark Bryant, declined comment.
Denver plays at home on Thursday night in Game 6 of a Western Conference quarterfinal against the Lakers, trailing three games to two.
