San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs' Gregg Popovich has been selected as the 2013-14 NBA Coach of the Year, the league announced Tuesday.
Popovich became just the third three-time winner of the award in NBA history after guiding the Spurs to a league-best 62-20 record. He joins Don Nelson and Pat Riley as the only coaches to win the Red Auerbach Trophy three times.
Popovich totaled 59 first-place votes and 380 points from a panel of 124 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada, finishing ahead of Phoenix Suns rookie bench boss Jeff Hornacek, who received 37 first-place votes and earned 339 points.
Chicago's Tom Thibodeau was named atop 12 first-place ballots and finished third with 159 points.
The Spurs won at least 50 games for the 15th consecutive season under Popovich, who also won the award following 2002-03 and 2011-12 seasons.
