Minnesota Twins pitcher Scott Baker underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Tuesday.

Baker was already ruled out for the season due to an impending procedure that aimed to clear out scar tissue, but instead he had the full ligament replacement surgery.

Baker, 30, was placed on the 15-day disabled list April 4 with what the team said was a strain in his right pitching elbow.

He appeared in 23 games last season, including 21 starts, while visiting the DL several times and was 8-6 with a 3.14 earned run average and 123 strikeouts in 134 2/3 innings.

Baker has played all seven of his major league seasons for the Twins.
