Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson did not play in Monday's 1-0 loss in Game 3 of an Eastern Conference quarterfinal series against the New York Rangers due to a concussion.

Alfredsson suffered the concussion in Game 2 after he was elbowed in the head by New York's Carl Hagelin, who served the first of a three-game suspension for the hit on Monday.

The 39-year-old Alfredsson participated in practice on Monday morning and had passed a baseline concussion test, but opted to sit out the contest.

Ottawa now trails the best-of-seven series, 2-1, with Game 4 set for Wednesday in Ottawa.
