One game into their season and the New York Mets have already sent a player to the disabled list.

New center fielder Andres Torres landed on the 15-day DL Friday with a strained left calf. It's the same injury that sidelined Torres for two weeks in spring training.

Acquired from San Francisco in December, Torres re-injured the calf ranging back to cut off a ball hit by Tyler Pastornicky in the seventh inning of Thursday's season-opening victory against the Atlanta Braves.

Injuries limited the 34-year-old Torres to 112 games a year ago.

The Mets recalled outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis from Triple-A Buffalo. Nieuwenhuis, 24, joins the big league club for the first time. He hit .298 with six home runs and 17 doubles in 53 games for Buffalo last season before shoulder surgery put him on the shelf.
