Porto, Portugal – UEFA handed down a fine of $26,000 to Portuguese club FC Porto after supporters of the team racially abused Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli in February.
The punishment was issued by UEFA after a meeting of their control and disciplinary body, which determined that Balotelli was the victim of monkey taunts during City's Europa League round of 32 match at Porto on Feb. 16.
The club has three days to appeal the verdict.
"The UEFA control and disciplinary body has imposed a fine of $26,000 on FC Porto for racist conduct of their supporters at their first-leg round of 32 UEFA Europa League match against Manchester City FC on February 16 in Porto," a statement from UEFA read.
