Cleveland starter Ubaldo Jimenez will appeal his five-game suspension, said Indians manager Manny Acta on Tuesday.

Major League Baseball issued the ban and fined him an undisclosed sum on Monday stemming from an incident in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Rockies, when Jimenez intentionally threw a pitch at the elbow of Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki during the first inning of a 12-10 Rockies victory.

The 28-year-old Dominican hurler and 27-year-old infielder were teammates in Denver from 2006 until Jimenez was shipped to the Tribe at the trade deadline last season.

With the appeal, Jimenez will still be eligible to make his first start of the season, on Saturday against Toronto.
