Peoria, AZ – The San Diego Padres on Friday agreed to terms with pitcher Cory Luebke on a contract extension to keep the lefty with the club through at least the 2015 season.
Luebke posted a 6-10 mark along 3.29 earned run average in 46 games, 17 starts, behind a 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings mark in 2011. He struck out 154 batters in his first full major league season, the second-most ever recorded by a Padres rookie.
"Cory is a talented, athletic pitcher," said San Diego general manager Josh Byrnes. "He is a high-character player who continues to improve. We feel that he is well-positioned to build on his 2011 success."
The Padres also retained club options for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
The Ohio State product was selected as a supplemental first-round pick (63rd overall) by San Diego in the 2007 MLB Draft, and made his professional debut in 2010, striking out 18 hitters over 17 2/3 innings in four appearances.
