The St. Louis Cardinals have purchased the minor league contract of pitcher Scott Linebrink and added him to the team's 40-man roster.

Linebrink agreed to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training in February. He has earned a spot on the roster thanks to an earned run average of 0.93 in nine appearances this spring.

The 35-year-old right-hander pitched for Atlanta last season and was 4-4 with a 3.64 earned run average in 64 games out of the bullpen.

Linebrink is 42-31 with a 3.51 ERA over his 12 seasons in the majors. He has pitched in 607 games with San Francisco, Houston, San Diego, Milwaukee, the Chicago White Sox and Atlanta.
