Peter Hanson has accepted a special temporary membership for the PGA Tour for the remainder of the 2012 season.

The Swede gained the membership by earning $644,765 in three PGA starts this season. A total of $411,943 -- No. 150 on the 2011 money list -- is needed to qualify for special temporary membership.

Hanson, 34, earned the bulk of that money this season by finishing in the top five at the first two World Golf Championship events.

He is a member of the European Tour and has won four of those events in his career, but can join the PGA Tour as a regular member for the 2013 season if his WGC earnings and official prize money equals or exceeds 125th place on the 2012 money list.

The 25th-ranked player in the world, Hanson is playing this week's Shell Houston Open as a sponsor exemption.
