Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes is set to spend the next month on the sidelines because of a knee injury.

The Brazilian underwent tests that determined he had suffered a tear of his medial meniscus, which will require surgery.

The 31-year-old has spent much of the season on the bench behind Brad Friedel, who has been an ever-present between the posts for Spurs this season.

Gomes has appeared in just four games in all competitions for manager Harry Redknapp this season - three in the Europa League and one in the Carling Cup.

Since his arrival in north London from PSV Eindhoven in 2008, Gomes has featured in 136 games in all competitions for Tottenham.
