The hosts jumped out to a three-goal lead in the first 30 minutes as Marek Hamsik opened the scoring after 10 minutes before Paolo Cannavaro headed home Ezequiel Lavezzi's free kick.

Cagliari fell three goals behind on the half-hour mark courtesy of Davide Astori's own goal, while Joaquin Larrivey scored the first of his three goals for Cagliari to reduce the deficit to 3-1.

Lavezzi scored from the penalty spot after drawing a foul inside the area, and Walter Gargano made it 5-1 when he finished off a pass from Edinson Cavani.

Larrivey scored twice in the final 13 minutes for Cagliari with Christian Maggio notching his third goal of the season for Napoli in between.
