Athletics release C Powell

Phoenix, AZ – The Oakland Athletics released catcher Landon Powell on Friday.

Powell, a non-roster invitee this spring, spent the past three seasons backing up Kurt Suzuki. In 2011, he batted .171 in 36 games.

For his major league career, Powell has hit .207 with 10 home runs and 45 RBI in 123 games -- all with Oakland.
