The Detroit Red Wings and Todd Bertuzzi have agreed on two-year contract extension that will pay the rugged forward $2.25 million a season, the National Hockey League (NHL) club said on Thursday.
Now in his 16th season, Bertuzzi has 12 goals and 29 points for the NHL leading Red Wings.
Taken in the first round of the 1993 draft by the New York Islanders, Bertuzzi has also had stints with the Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, Anaheim Ducks and Calgary Flames posting career totals of 301 goals and 742 points and 1,426 penalty minutes.
Bertuzzi, 37, is also the central figure in one of the NHL's most infamous incidents when he attacked Colorado forward Steve Moore during a 2004 game in Vancouver, breaking Moore's neck and ending the Avalanche forward's career.
Moore has since filed a $38 million civil suit against Bertuzzi and the Canucks that is set to go to court on September 24.
