The Kansas City Royals have picked up manager Ned Yost's contract option for the 2013 season, the Major League Baseball team said Tuesday.

Yost has been the Royals' manager since May 2010 when Trey Hillman was fired.

He has a 126-163 record with the team, which finished fourth in the American League Central Division with a 71-91 record last season.

Terms of the deal were not announced.
