Iona College has signed men's basketball year contract extension.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is effective as of January 1 of this year and runs through the 2016-17 season.

Cluess is in his second year with the program. He guided the Gaels to a mark of 25-12 last season and has the team off to a 17-5 start this year. Iona is also tied for first in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with a record of 9-2.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to build on the development of our program in conjunction with Iona's long-term vision," said Cluess in a statement. "The ability to lead these fine student-athletes as we fight for a MAAC championship and NCAA Tournament bid each year is a challenge that I wholeheartedly look forward to today, and for seasons to come."

The Gaels reached the MAAC Tournament championship game last spring and also advanced to the title game of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament, losing the latter contest to Santa Clara.

Before joining Iona, Cluess spent five seasons at C.W. Post and Suffolk Community College, posting a combined record of 120-33 overall after a successful high school coaching career.
