The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated forward R.J. Umberger off injured reserve.

Umberger had missed five games because of an upper body injury, believed to be concussion-like symptoms. He took an elbow to the head from Anaheim defenseman Jean-Francois Jacques in a January 8 game and played two days later against Chicago before sitting out.

Jacques was handed a three-game suspension for his actions.

In 42 games this season entering Monday's play, Umberger has seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points. He had a franchise-record streak of 288 consecutive games played stopped when he missed the January 13 contest against Phoenix.

The Blue Jackets also recalled left wing Dane Byers from their American Hockey League affiliate in Springfield. Byers has not recorded a point in five games for the Blue Jackets this season, but has registered 24 penalty minutes.
