SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Devereaux Peters scored 20 points in 18 minutes to lead No. 2 Notre Dame to a 120-44 victory Tuesday night against Pittsburgh, the most lopsided Big East victory ever for the Fighting Irish.
It was the second-highest scoring game for the Irish this season. They scored 128 against Mercer in December. It was also the second time this season Notre Dame had won a Big East game by at least 50 points. The Irish beat Marquette 95-42.
Seven other players scored in double figures for the Irish (18-1, 6-0).
Natalie Achonwa (19), Kaila Turner (14), Natalie Novosel (13), Kayla McBride (11), Skylar Diggins (11 points and nine assists), Brittany Mallory (11), and Markisha Wright 11.
Pittsburgh (8-11, 0-6) was led by Ashlee Anderson's 14.
Notre Dame had 33 assists on 48 baskets in its 15th consecutive win.
The Irish put on a passing clinic early on with Diggins getting three quick assists as Notre Dame bounced out to a 12-7 lead with 15:56 to go in the first half.
Peters hit two free throws to start an 18-2 run to set the score at 30-9 with 8:27 to go in the half and set the tone for the rest of the half.
Pitt went 10:34 without a field goal as part of that streak.
Notre Dame led at intermission, 54-19.
Peters led all scorers with 16 points while Diggins had eight assists. Notre Dame shot 60.5 percent and held Pitt to a 30 percent at the half.
Notre Dame held a 24-9 rebounding edge. The Irish forced 12 turnovers and made as many baskets (23) as Pitt attempted.
The second half was more of the same. Notre Dame broke the 100-point mark with 7:24 remaining on a 15-footer by Turner.
