Bill Smith, fired as general manager of the Minnesota Twins last month, will return to the club's front office in another capacity.

After four years as GM, Smith was replaced by the man he initially replaced, Terry Ryan, on November 7. Smith will now be an assistant to Ryan and club president Dave St. Peter.

Smith has been part of the organization since 1986 and was instrumental in the opening of the team's new stadium, Target Field, in 2010. He will work with minor league development and international player development, while also overseeing the progress of the team's spring training upgrade in Florida.
