Ames, IA – Iowa State's football program gained long-term year, $20 million contract.
Rhoads is in his third season as the head coach of the Cyclones, who went 6-6 during the regular season. They posted a shocking double-overtime victory over then-No. 2 Oklahoma State on November 18, and will play Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl on December 30.
When he was hired by Iowa State in December 2008, Rhoads agreed to a five-year contract worth $5.75 million.
"To say that I'm appreciative and humbled is a huge understatement," Rhoads said of his new contract. "So many people have contributed to what has been achieved in our program the first three years. The support of everyone in Cyclone Nation has been fantastic. It's great to be a Cyclone."
Iowa State has a record of 18-19 under Rhoads, who succeeded Gene Chizik. Rhoads was the defensive coordinator at Auburn and was not retained when Chizik became the Tigers' head coach in December 2008.
Rhoads had been a defensive coach for the Cyclones in the mid-1990s and led them to a 7-6 record with an Insight Bowl victory during his first season.
