The New Jersey Nets signed free agent forward Shelden Williams on Tuesday.

The fifth overall pick in the 2006 draft by the Atlanta Hawks, Williams has played in 303 career games with Atlanta, Sacramento, Minnesota, Boston, Denver and the New York Knicks.

He split last season with Denver and New York, averaging 4.5 points and 4.6 rebounds in 15.4 minutes per game.

"We are pleased to add Shelden to our roster," Nets general manager Billy King said. "He is a proven veteran who will add depth to our frontcourt rotation."

Williams has career averages of 4.5 points and 4.0 boards.
