Arsenal defender Andre Santos will undergo surgery on his ankle which will keep him out of action for three months, it was confirmed by the club on Monday.

Santos sustained the injury last Tuesday in a Champions League defeat to Olympiacos, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger fearing the worst after the match.

And his fears were confirmed on Monday as the club released a statement which read: "Andre will have surgery in Brazil this week and is expected to be out for around three months."

The Brazilian has scored one goal in eight league games for the Gunners, who are also without full backs Kieran Gibbs and Carl Jenkinson because of injury.
