Canucks aim to douse Flames in Vancouver

The Vancouver Canucks vie to bounce back into the win game homestand this evening versus the Calgary Flames at Rogers Arena.

Cory Schneider has started every game since mid-November in place of Roberto Luongo, who went down with an upper-body injury almost a month ago and was forced into action in Thursday's 6-5 loss versus Nashville. Schneider was pulled after allowing three goals on five shots and Luongo made 12 saves in relief for Vancouver, which had a five-game winning streak stopped.

Schneider stopped 47 shots in a 4-1 win versus Columbus on Tuesday and is 7-4-0 with a 2.12 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage. Luongo, who was making his first appearance since Nov. 13 versus the Islanders, owns a 7-6-1 mark to go along with a 3.05 GAA and a .892 save percentage.

The Canucks are 1-1 on the homestand and 6-4-1 as the host this season. Cody Hodgson, Daniel Sedin, Aaron Volpatti, Alexandre Burrows and Jannik Hansen all scored for the Canucks, who are tied with Edmonton for second place in the Northwest Division, six points behind Minnesota (35 pts).

"It was an up-and-down game," said Canucks center Henrik Sedin. "I thought we played solid ... but they made some really nice plays."

Vancouver will close out the homestand Tuesday versus Colorado and had won eight of 10 games before losing to the Predators. Forward Mason Raymond (fractured vertebrae) is expected to be activated from injured reserve for Sunday's game, while defenseman Sami Salo (groin) is listed as questionable. Raymond missed the first 24 games of the season.

Calgary has won three of its last four games and defeated the Oilers for a seventh consecutive time with Saturday's 5-3 victory at Rexall Place.

Mikael Backlund scored the game-winner midway through the third period, while Olli Jokinen tallied twice and both Derek Smith and Rene Bourque finished with a goal and an assist for the Flames, who have won two in a row on the road and are 6-7-0 away from the Saddledome.

"They got two quick ones and we rebounded quickly to get right back in it," Flames forward Jarome Iginla said of Edmonton.

Miikka Kiprusoff made 26 saves to earn the victory. The Flames are still last in the Northwest Division and will begin a three-game homestand Tuesday versus the Hurricanes, Avalanche and Oilers.

Vancouver defeated Calgary, 5-1, on the road back on Nov. 1 and Luongo came less than a minute away from a shutout. He recorded 28 saves for the Canucks, who have won four straight, eight of nine and 11 of the past 15 encounters with the Flames. Calgary has dropped nine of 13 games at Vancouver.
