Los Angeles, CA – Montreal Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery.
Habs general manager Pierre Gauthier provided a full update on the situation prior to Saturday's contest against the Kings.
"He's been training with the team and had clearance for full contact. Despite his progress, the team asked him to see a doctor here in Los Angeles at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic, and with the reviews of Dr. Andrews and Dr. Mulder and all the people that have been following his progress...the decision has been taken that he'll have arthroscopic knee surgery in the next few days in order to clean out some scar tissue but mostly some debris that has been left there and has been causing a lot of inflammation. The prognosis is three weeks or so, but could be a little longer."
The 32-year-old has not played since November 13, 2010 against Carolina, and has been troubled by a right knee which has undergone multiple surgeries to repair a torn meniscus and correct a twice-injured anterior cruciate ligament.
