Devils take their show to the road in Colorado

The New Jersey Devils hit the road for four straight games following a disappointing loss over the weekend.

Disappointing is just one way to describe the Colorado Avalanche's play at home this season.

The Devils try to continue their recent string of solid play as the guest this evening while the Avalanche continue their eight-game stay at the Pepsi Center.

Aiming for a third straight victory on Saturday in the finale of a home-and- home series with the Islanders, the Devils battled back from a pair of one- goal deficits before finding themselves at a 3-2 disadvantage. Zach Parise then appeared to tie the game on a called goal with 2.1 seconds left to play, but the play was reviewed and overturned after a ruling of a distinct kicking motion.

"I just watched it and I'm sorry, but I can't agree with it," Parise said. "I knew it went off my skate, I knew it went off my stick too. But if that's a kicking motion -- I don't know."

Adam Henrique and Adam Larsson both scored and Martin Brodeur made 23 saves for the Devils, who are 5-2 on the road this month after taking Friday's front end of the series with the Islanders by a 1-0 margin.

New Jersey will look to continue its road success tonight against a Colorado club that is only 4-9-0 at home this season. That includes a 2-3-0 mark on this eight-game homestand, the longest continuous residency in Avalanche history.

Colorado evened its mark on the stand with a 5-2 win over Edmonton on Saturday, but was then dealt a 3-1 defeat by visiting Dallas on Monday. Semyon Varlamov made 32 saves and Kevin Porter scored a late third-period goal to avoid the shutout.

The Avalanche are a mere 3-9-1 in November and haven't won consecutive contests since a five-game run from Oct. 10-17.

"We have a lot of motivation. You lose this many at home, it should be easy to get up for a game here and score a couple of quick goals," Porter said. "It seems like we get down early and we are fighting from behind a lot. That definitely has to change."

The Avalanche have won their last two meetings with the Devils, including a 3-2 victory in New Jersey last season.

Colorado, which will also visit the Devils on March 15, is 3-1 with a tie in the last five encounters a home with New Jersey.
