Chivas USA has acquired midfielder Ryan Smith from Sporting Kansas City in exchange for its first and third round picks in the 2012 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft.

Smith, 25, played 32 matches over two seasons for Sporting KC, and bagged four goals and seven assists. In 2011, Smith appeared in six games after returning from offseason knee surgery, but his year ended in June after leaving the team for family reasons.

"Ryan is a talented winger with great pace and skills. At Chivas USA, we are committed to continue to improve our roster for the 2012 season," said Chivas General Manager Jose Domene.

An England youth international at five levels, Smith was a member of Arsenal's youth ranks and played for numerous sides in England including Derby County.

The supplemental draft will be held on Jan. 17. Per MLS and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
