The Columbus Crew announced on Monday that the year contract extension, although no further details were disclosed.

The 25-year-old Gaven has already spent the past six seasons with Columbus, and he is coming off of a campaign that saw him score five goals with one assist in 26 games.

"I love it here in Columbus, so this means a lot to me," Gaven said. "I love the team and our fans. The past six years have been great, and hopefully we can make my next few years just as great and bring the team back to the MLS Cup final."

Gaven was acquired by the team in March 2006 in a trade from New York, and he has gone on to score 26 goals with 19 assists in 165 matches for the Crew.

In addition to winning the club's Most Valuable Player award in 2010, Gaven played a vital part in the Crew's run to the MLS Cup title in 2008.

"Eddie is an extremely important part of our team, so we are very happy to reach this agreement with him," said Crew head coach Robert Warzycha. "His versatility, composure and commitment have made him a key member of our core group of players, and getting him re-signed was absolutely a priority."
