(Reuters) - Former high-scoring winger Wojtek Wolski of the New York Rangers will undergo surgery this week for a sports hernia and is expected to be sidelined four weeks, the team said on Monday.

Wolski, 25, has been experiencing groin problems since the preseason and has not played since leaving last Thursday's game against the Anaheim Ducks. He will have surgery on Wednesday.

The former first-round draft pick in 2004 set career highs in goals (23) and assists (42) during the 2009-10 season spent with Colorado and Phoenix but his production has tapered off.

He has two assists in six games this season.
