The Carolina Panthers placed starting right tackle Jeff Otah on injured reserve due to a left knee injury.

This is the third time in less than two years that the Panthers have placed Otah on IR because of his troublesome knee.

The mammoth 6-foot-6, 330-pound tackle originally tore the meniscus in his knee during a December 13, 2009 game against the New England Patriots, and missed the final three games of the season.

The 25-year-old Otah missed the entire 2010 season and two games this year.

Carolina took the Pittsburgh product in the first round of the 2008 draft.

The Panthers added depth on the offensive line by signing nine-year veteran Reggie Wells. Undrafted rookie Byron Bell is expected to take Otah's place in the starting lineup.
