New York, NY – The National Hockey League suspended Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang for two games on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old was punished for delivering an illegal check from behind against Winnipeg forward Alex Burmistrov in the Jets' 2-1 victory on Monday. Letang was assessed a minor for boarding on the play, which occurred late in the third period.
Letang will forfeit $37,837.84 in salary, which automatically goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
He will not be eligible to return until October 22, when the Penguins face the New Jersey Devils.
