Frank Lampard scored a hat trick and Daniel 1 win over Bolton at the Reebok Stadium on Sunday.
Sturridge spent part of last season on loan with Wanderers, but it didn't take long for him to punish the home side as he netted a goal in the opening minute from Juan Mata's corner kick.
Lampard's first goal came after 15 minutes when he collected a pass from Sturridge and fired a shot past goalkeeper Adam Bogdan.
The scoring barrage continued in the 25th minute when Sturridge took a shot from the edge of the penalty area that went in off Bogdan when the 'keeper should have made the save, while Lampard was handed his second goal a few minutes later after he slotted home a rebound attempt from David Luiz's shot.
Bolton scored in the opening minute of the second half when Dedryck Boyata headed home a free kick from Martin Petrov, but Lampard finished off the hosts by completing his hat trick on the hour mark after having a ball laid into his path by Didier Drogba.

London, England - Fulham secured its first win of the season in emphatic fashion at Craven Cottage on Sunday, beating London rivals QPR, 6-0.
Andrew Johnson scored a hat trick for Fulham while Danny Murphy, Clint Dempsey and Bobby Zamora each added a goal of their own to complete the rout.
Johnson tallied his first goal after two minutes before Murphy's penalty kick made it 2-0 in the 20th.
Johnson scored in the 38th and 58th minutes to make it 4-0 and complete his hat trick, while Dempsey and Zamora netted goals of their own in the final 25 minutes.
Swansea City 2, Stoke City 0
Swansea, Wales - Swansea City collected its second victory of the campaign on Sunday with a 2-0 home triumph against Stoke City.
Scott Sinclair's eighth-minute penalty kick put the hosts in the lead, and Danny Graham secured all three points for his team with a goal five minutes from time, handing Stoke its second loss of the season.
