Chicago, IL – Ozzie Guillen is out as manager of the Chicago White Sox and will manage the Florida Marlins next season as part of a deal between the teams, according to a report.
The Chicago Sun-Times, citing multiple sources, reported that the White Sox and Marlins are in the final stages of a deal and that Guillen will manage his last game with Chicago on Monday night.
Earlier in the day, interim Marlins manager Jack McKeon said he would not return next season.
Guillen confirmed before Monday night's game against Toronto that he met with White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf in the afternoon. In a typical fashion, his comments to the media were peppered with profanity.
"[Expletive] more years. I want more money," Guillen said at one point, even though he also said he told Reinsdorf: "I think I should be back here for more years."
Guillen said he left the meeting with Reinsdorf with "nothing" and was waiting to see what happened, although the Sun-Times reported that he knew he was on his way out.
"I told him the way I feel, like I always do," Guillen said of the meeting.
The issue was clearly related to money, with Guillen joking that he couldn't just walk into the owner's office and demand $2 million.
"That's a process," said Guillen. "I'm not that crazy, I'm not that stupid."
Guillen also said: "What? I'm going to die with the White Sox poor? Hell no."
He said: "I'm not going to come here for a 10-year deal making $200,000. No."
Guillen has managed the White Sox for the past eight seasons and won a World Series with the team in 2005. He played shortstop for the team for 13 seasons.
