Arlington, TX – Yorvit Torrealba belted a pair of homers, game winning streak, leading the AL West-champion 5 rout of the Seattle Mariners.
Ian Kinsler and Adrian Beltre each had three hits, including a homer, for Texas, which finished 52-29 at home and are a game ahead of AL Central champion Detroit for home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Rangers conclude their season on the road against the Angels, who are still alive for a wild card berth. The Tigers host Cleveland in their final three contests.
"We're playing good baseball. We're definitely capable of it," Kinsler said of the Rangers possibly making a run in the playoffs.
The 52 home wins matches a club record for the Rangers, as they also had that mark in 1978. They ended the year with a seven-game win streak in Arlington and had a club-record 15 wins against Seattle this season.
Holland (16-5), who established a career-high in victories this season, has just one loss over his last 11 decisions. He allowed five hits and three runs while fanning seven over five innings Sunday.
Charlie Furbush (4-10) gave up six hits and six runs -- five earned -- over 4 1/3 frames for the Mariners, who have lost four in a row.
Mike Carp, Alex Liddi, Kyle Seager and Chris Gimenez homered in defeat.
The Rangers, who posted their seventh win in eight games, went ahead in the second thanks to Beltre's 30th homer of the year.
Gimenez tied it with his longball in the third, but Kinsler went deep in the bottom half and Mike Napoli's RBI single gave the Rangers a 4-1 cushion.
Liddi's two-run homer to left in the fourth cut into the gap, but Esteban German's sacrifice fly made it a two-run margin in the fifth.
Carp homered to right off Darren O'Day in the sixth, but Torrealba countered with the first of his two blasts of the day in the bottom half.
The Rangers then extended the margin to 11-4 in the seventh on Torrealba's slam off Chance Ruffin.
"That's what you're supposed to do with pitches that get left over the plate," Gimenez said. "They definitely take advantage of it and put so much pressure on us, the pitching staff."
Texas added another run in the eighth thanks to an error on Seager, who homered in the ninth off Merkin Valdez.
