Portland, OR – Khari Stephenson's goal 20 minutes from time 1 draw with the Portland Timbers at Wen Field on Wednesday.
The Timbers took an early lead through Kenny Cooper as he found the back of the net after nine minutes. But Stephenson's equalizer prevented Portland from its fifth successive home victory, although the club still extends its unbeaten run to five games.
San Jose's search for wins continues to come up empty with the 'Quakes having won just one of their last 16 matches.
Portland got off to a quick start and took the lead in the ninth minute when Darlington Nagbe got down the right wing and into the penalty area before pulling the ball back to Cooper, who provided a first-time finish from eight yards.
San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch produced a great save four minutes later to keep his team within a goal as Sal Zizzo set up Nagbe for a shot from 10 yards that Busch did really well to keep out.
Cooper tried to add to his goal total just before halftime with a well-placed chip that Busch had to tip over the crossbar.
The visitors began to control the majority of the possession as the second half began, and after Busch produced another good save from Eric Brunner's header, Stephenson popped up to level the match.
Rafael Baca made the pass to Stephenson and he did the rest, turning with the ball 20 yards from goal and finding the lower-left corner.
The 'Quakes then had two chances in the final 10 minutes to claim all three points as Nana Attakora went close with a header from 12 yards while Portland goalkeeper Troy Perkins made a diving stop to prevent Chris Wondolowski's header from finding the net.
