The New York Giants made it official on Saturday and ended Jonathan Goff's season by placing the middle linebacker on injured reserve.

Goff, who started all 16 games last season, suffered a torn ACL during practice on Monday. He joins cornerback Terrell Thomas, defensive tackle Marvin Austin and fellow linebacker Clint Sintim on the season-ending IR.

Other injured defensive players for the Giants who won't make the trip to Washington for Sunday's season opener are defensive end Osi Umenyiora and rookie cornerback Prince Amukamara. Defensive end Justin Tuck was limited in practice on Friday because of a neck issue and is considered questionable for the contest.

The Giants filled Goff's roster spot by promoting defensive end Justin Trattou from the practice squad. Trattou becomes the fourth undrafted rookie on the club's opening day roster, joining fullback Henry Hynoski and linebackers Mark Herzlich and Spencer Paysinger.

Trattou, a high school star at Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey, was waived by the Giants last weekend and signed to the practice squad. He appeared in 52 games at the University of Florida and recorded 121 tackles with 8 1/2 sacks and three interceptions.
