This Week in Golf -- September 8th through September 11th

Philadelphia, PA – EUROPEAN TOUR - KLM OPEN, Hilversumsche With the PGA Tour taking a week off, the notch field competing at the KLM Open.

Among the major champions in the field are Rory McIlroy, Louis Oosthuizen, Michael Campbell and Martin Kaymer. World No. 2 Lee Westwood will also tee it up at Hilversumsche Golf Club starting on Thursday.

In his first start since winning the 2010 PGA Championship, Kaymer opened with two straight 67s, then closed with back-to-back 66s to cruise to a four-stroke win over two players.

The victory was Kaymer's third of 2010 and seventh of his European Tour career. He has earned two more titles since and is coming off a second-place finish at the European Masters.

That runner-up finish came after Kaymer missed the cut in his title defense at the PGA Championship.

McIlroy, Kaymer and Westwood are among those trying to get a head start in collecting Ryder Cup points towards the 2012 European team. This will be the second event in which players can earn points.

Two-time winner Simon Dyson, Ross Fisher and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano join Kaymer as former champions in the field.

This is one of the oldest events in Europe as it dates to 1912.

The European Tour heads to France next week for the Vivendi Seve Trophy, where John Parry closed with back-to-back 70s to earn a two-stroke win over Johan Edfors.

LPGA TOUR

NW ARKANSAS CHAMPIONSHIP, Pinnacle Country Club, Rogers, Arkansas - Women's world No. 1 Yani Tseng returns to Pinnacle Country Club to defend her title starting on Friday.

Tseng trailed Michelle Wie by three strokes entering the final round last year, then closed with a six-under 65, including five birdies on the back nine, to beat Wie by a single stroke.

The victory was Tseng's fifth of her LPGA Tour career and followed her trip to the winner's circle at the Kraft Nabisco and Women's British Open.

Tseng has picked up four more titles this year to raise her career total to nine. She won her fourth and fifth major championship crowns earlier this year making her the youngest player ever (male of female) to win five majors.

The LPGA Tour will shift to Alabama next week for the Navistar LPGA Classic. where Katherine Hull held off Brittany Lincicome by a single stroke last year.
