Chicago's Sylvia Fowles and Minnesota's Lindsay Whalen were named the WNBA's Eastern and Western Conference players of the month for games played in August.

Fowles guided the Sky to a 5-5 record in August while leading the league in rebounds (11.9 rpg) and field goal percentage (.680 on 83-of-122 shooting.) She also ranked third in the WNBA and second in the Eastern Conference in scoring (20.5 ppg) and blocks (1.8 bpg).

The former No. 2 selection in the 2008 WNBA Draft, Fowles scored in double figures in every game during the month. She set a WNBA record for consecutive double-doubles in a single season with eight.

Whalen helped the Lynx record an 11-2 mark in August, which extend the team's overall mark to 24-6. She led the league in assists (5.8) and ranked among the scoring leaders with 14.2 ppg, good for fifth in the West.
