Butler, Stanfel selected as senior nominees for Pro Football Hall

Canton, OH – Cornerback Jack Butler and guard Dick Stanfel have been selected as senior nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2012.

Butler and Stanfel will join 15 modern-era candidates as finalists for the Class of 2012. The Hall of Fame selection meeting will be held on February 4, 2012, the day before Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis.

Both players were members of the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 1950s.

Butler played nine seasons in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1951-59 and was a Pro Bowl choice in each of his final four years. He recorded 52 career interceptions for 827 yards and four touchdowns, including an NFL- best 10 picks during the 1957 season.

Stanfel was selected for five Pro Bowls during a seven-year career with Detroit and Washington. He helped the Lions to back-to-back NFL titles in 1952 and '53. After four seasons with Detroit, he was traded to Washington and spent his final three seasons with the Redskins.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2012 will be enshrined during the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival in Canton, Ohio next August.
