The march to two consecutive Stanley Cup Final appearances for the Pittsburgh Penguins were anchored by a ready-to-stirke offensive unit, solidified defensive corps and a rock steady presence between the pipes. Essentially, all the pieces were in place when the Penguins took on the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1992 Cup Final.

Meanwhile, the Blackhawks' road to the Stanley Cup was a much different, much longer one. The Hawks haven't played for the Cup since the 1972-73 campaign. In 1992, however, after going 12-2 through the first three rounds against St. Louis, Detroit and Edmonton, respectively, the Hawks were ready to hoist the Cup for the first time since 1960.

Eventually, the Penguins went on to capture their second-straight Stanley Cup, after a four-game sweep of the Blackhawks.

While an entire series, especially in the Final, can't be decided after one game, it was as close to being the case in 1992. Mellon Arena was the setting, 4-1 was the lead and it belonged to the road team. The Blackhawks came out storming against the Penguins and it very well could've served as a devastating first blow. Somehow, after Game 1, the Penguins led the series, 1-0, after an improbable come-from-behind effort, in which Penguins' Jaromir Jagr skated through three defenders before scoring a slick backhand and Mario Lemieux knocked home a rebound behind Ed Belfour to grab the eventual game-winner late in the third period.

The loss was deflating enough for the Blackhawks, as the Penguins cruised to a sweep.

While the Penguins won their second-straight Cup, Mario Lemieux ended up winning his second-straight Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP after registering 34 points in just 15 games.
