ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed left wing Patrick Maroon to a one-year contract. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.
Maroon, 23 (4/23/88), was acquired by Anaheim with David Laliberte from Philadelphia in exchange for Danny Syvret and Rob Bordson on Nov. 21, 2010. The 6-4, 225-pound winger split the 2010-11 season with Syracuse and Adirondack of the American Hockey League (AHL), collecting 26-30=56 points with a +5 rating and 98 penalty minutes (PIM) in 66 combined games. He ranked tied for second among AHL leaders with 15 power play goals. Following his acquisition from Philadelphia, Maroon ranked second on Syracuse in points (48), third in goals (21) and plus/minus (+6), and fifth in assists (27).
Selected by Philadelphia in the sixth round (161st overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Maroon has played four professional seasons in the AHL with Philadelphia (2007-09), Adirondack (2009-11) and Syracuse (2010-11). In 214 career AHL games, he has scored 60-94=154 with 285 PIM. The St. Louis, MO native has also added 1-2=3 points with 13 PIM in four career Calder Cup Playoff games in 2009 with Philadelphia.
