DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to a two-year contract with backup goaltender Joey MacDonald.

The team announced the deal Monday and did not disclose financial terms. The 31-year-old MacDonald went 5-5-3 with a 2.58 goals-against average in 15 games for the Red Wings last season. He also played in 20 games for Grand Rapids of the AHL.

Detroit signed starting goalie Jimmy Howard to a two-year, $4.5 million deal in February. Beyond Howard, Detroit's goaltending situation has been somewhat muddled. It's not clear whether veteran Chris Osgood will be back with the Red Wings to play behind Howard.
