The Montreal Canadiens on Thursday re-signed defenseman Andrei Markov to a three-year contract through the 2013-14 season. No financial terms of the agreement were disclosed.
“We are very pleased that Andrei has made the decision to pursue his career with the Montreal Canadiens. A player drafted and developed by our organization, Andrei brings a high level of talent and leadership to our team. We look forward to having him back in our lineup for the start of the upcoming season,” Canadiens General Manager Pierre Gauthier said in a statement.
Markov, 32, has played all 10 of his NHL seasons with the Canadiens. He had 1 goal and 2 assists in seven games in 2010-11 before sustaining a season-ending knee injury on Nov. 13.
Since 2000-01, Markov has registered 366 points (81 goals, 285 assists) in 623 NHL regular-season games with 361 penalty minutes and a plus-31 plus/minus differential. Markov has scored 41 goals on the power play and two on the penalty kill. He has 18 points (3 goals, 15 assists) in 49 playoff contests.
The native of Voskresensk, Russia, was the 162nd player taken in the 1998 Entry Draft.
