One Ohio little leaguer got a big league surprise during his game.
Cincinnati Reds All-Star Brandon Phillips showed up to a little league baseball game Thursday night after 14-year-old Connor Echols tweeted him, asking him to come.
"I said, 'Let me think about this.' His game was at 6:15. When I got finished eating, it was like 6:10 and I thought, well shoot, I'm going to go to his game. I had nothing else to do. I thought, 'Let me go out and support the little man.' I went out there and he had a great game. I met all his teammates. I met everybody in the park. It was fun. I had a great time," Phillips told the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Echols was shocked seeing the Reds second baseman at the game.
"Never in a thousand years did I think he would come," he told the paper.
"It meant a lot to me. I've always been a big fan of Brandon. I have always wanted to see him in person. He's been one of my big idols."
Phillips -- who attended the game on his only day off until June 2 -- stayed for most of the game, signing autographs and interacting with fans.
"I just wanted to see a baseball game. It was just something to do to have a good time. To see his reaction and how everybody reacted to me, it made me enjoy it even more," Phillips told the Enquirer.
Echols did not disappoint in front of his idol, finishing the game 3-5.
"I don't really get nervous a lot, but that's the most I ever had butterflies in my stomach in my life. I just didn't want to embarrass myself," Echols told the Dayton Daily News.
Phillips said he wouldn't mind going to another little league game.
"It was just something that was real nice. I can see myself doing it again," he told the Enquirer.
