Giuseppe Rossi started Villarreal's comeback with his 24th goal of the season, and the Yellow Submarine won 3-2 at Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday night in the first leg of their third-round matchup in the Europa League.

Rossi, a New Jersey native, tied the game 1-1 in the 42nd minute with his seventh Europa League goal, matching Porto's Radamel Falcao for the most in the competition. Nimar replaced Rossi in the 69th and scored in the 70th minute and the fourth minute of injury time.

Leverkusen got goals from Michal Kadlec in the 33rd minute and Gonzalo Castro in the 72nd.

Osorio Alan converted a penalty kick in the 17th minute after Sotirios Kyrgiakos' clumsy foul on midfielder Mossoro, leading Braga to a 1-0 victory over visiting Liverpool. Goals by Andrey Shevchenko in the 25th minute and Oleg Gusev in the 77th led host Dynamo Kiev over high-spending Manchester City 2-0.

PSV Eindhoven was held to a 0-0 tie by visiting Glasgow Rangers; Porto won 1-0 at CSKA Moscow on a 70th-minute goal by Fredy Guarin; and Spartak Moscow won 1-0 at Ajax as Alex scored in the 57th.

Twente defeated visiting Zenit St. Petersburg 3-0, getting goals from Luuk de Jong in the 25th and 90th minutes around Denny Landzaat's goal in the 56th.

Benfica rallied past Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 on goals by Maxi Pereira in the 42nd and Franco Jara in the 81st, overcoming Peguy Luyindula's 14th-minute goal for the visitors.
