PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Philadelphia Phillies manager Charlie Manuel has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him with the National League club through the 2013 season, the team said Thursday.
Financial terms were not announced, but Philadelphia media reported the deal to be worth $7-8 million.
"There was little doubt that he was going to continue to be our skipper past his current contract," Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said in a statement.
The team had the best record in the majors last season, going 97-65.
Manuel, entering his seventh season as the Phillies skipper, said he would decide after the extension expires whether to continue managing.
"I set the length of time on the deal because I'll be 69 when the deal runs out," he told baseball's official website (www.mlb.com).
"I'll sit down and kind of evaluate where I'm at. As long as I stay healthy and stuff like that, I'm probably going to want to stay in the game."
