Garrius Holloman scored 15 points and top-seeded Bethune-Cookman defeated South Carolina State 66-50 on Wednesday night to win its eighth straight game and advance to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament semifinals for the first time since 2000.

C.J. Reed, on a rare off night from the field (4 of 19), added 12 points and Mikel Trapp 10 for the Wildcats (21-11), who won in double figures for only the third time this season against a MEAC opponent.

Bethune-Cookman swept the season series against the ninth-seeded Bulldogs (10-22) by much closer margins, 61-60 on Jan. 29 and 76-72 on Feb. 26.

With South Carolina State ahead 21-18, Bethune-Cookman closed the first half on a 13-6 spurt. Leading 37-34, the Wildcats used a 22-6 run to lead 59-40 with 4:59 to go.

Tyvon Williams, who scored 12 points, was the only player in double figures for South Carolina State.
