BOSTON (Reuters) - The Pittsburgh Penguins snapped the Boston Bruins' seven-game win streak with a dramatic 3-2 overtime victory on Dustin Jeffrey's second goal of the game on Saturday.
Jeffrey intercepted a pass by Boston's Dennis Seidenberg and raced around the defenseman before snapping a shot past Bruins goalie Tim Thomas on the blocker side.
"I just tried to get an angle on the guy, and I ended up picking off the pass," said Jeffrey. "I think I caught him (Seidenberg) flat-footed after he made that pass."
Boston took a 1-0 lead in the second period on a goal by Zdeno Chara but the Penguins responded quickly with two goals in a span of 1:10 by Jordan Staal and Jeffrey.
The Penguins could have put the game beyond reach at 3-1 with Thomas pulled to the Bruins bench in favor of an extra skater but Matt Cooke hesitated to shoot the puck toward the empty net and Boston defensemen Tomas Kaberle was able to block the shot.
The Bruins capitalised on Cooke's gaffe moments later as David Krejci scored the equalizer with a wrist shot from the slot with 33 seconds remaining.
"I think maybe (we were) a little deflated even before the goal," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said.
"You had a sense when Cooke had an opportunity to score and they came back and got the goal. Deep breath, and our guys were right after it again to get another goal. Again, it was a bit of the resiliency of our team and the work ethic."
