WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Washington Redskins kick returner Brandon Banks was released from hospital on Saturday after he and a companion were injured in a stabbing outside a D.C. nightclub, the NFL Network said.

Banks was treated for superficial knife wounds but his associate remained in hospital in serious condition, the Washington Post reported.

According to local police, Banks and the other person were attacked by a third individual in the early hours of Saturday following an argument outside the nightclub.

The suspect has been taken into custody and charged with assault with intent to kill, police said.

Redskins spokesman Tony Wyllie said the team were aware of the incident and that the person still in hospital was not a Washington player.
